Welcome to Authentic Living with Linda
I’m Linda Codlin

Welcome, My Friends.

We are into the second week of January.
How are you going with achieving your goals?
To be honest, my first week has been one of heavy resistance.
My body has been enjoying holiday mode and doesn’t want to settle into a new routine.
I am very gently but firmly letting her know that she is heard, and we are going to do it anyway.
My brain is telling me all the reasons why I won’t be able to attain the dream that I’m stretching for.
I am letting my brain know that by taking tiny authentic steps daily I can set the wheels of the compounding effect into motion.
I have figured out there is no point in resisting what my body and my brain are saying. I acknowledge my feelings in my body, which I call sensations. I also let my brain know it has been heard, that the vibrations I am sensing from the information around me, is being processed.
And I’m still being kind, authentic, and loving to myself by doing what is planned.

I read a paragraph the other day that opened my mind to a new thought.
It is a good thing to open your mind to new thoughts, you never know where they may take you.

I’m daily reading The Pivot Year. By Brianna Wiest, if you’d like to read along, grab a copy of the book and join me in my new Facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1096897931335843/

“There is power in Not knowing”
Not knowing everything or every detail is a doorway to new opportunities. It’s the space between where I am and what could be.
There is power in NOT Knowing. Not knowing has the power to allow for reality shifting opportunities and decisions to occur.

I am thinking that, This type of not knowing is NOT coming from overwhelm, or the energy of burying your head in the sand, like the ostrich.
I am thinking it is the energy of optimism, of having a big, extraordinary dream that you want to attain to, but where you are right now, you have no idea how you will go about it.
If you did know, then it is a goal, something that isn’t going to stretch you into a new person.

The magic of attaining a dream is in the not knowing, in the allowing it to unfold and following hunches that your intuition sends your way.
Not having every detail mapped out exactly, it’s giving yourself space to breathe and go with the flow.
It is also having the trust in yourself to go after the out of the box ideas that will pop in to your mind. To investigate options that wouldn’t normally interest you.

Every action we take is an indication of who we are, or who we are becoming.
Resistance to change is normal, when you are facing the inner turmoil of following through on your plans, and keeping up with your schedule, remember this is normal.
Accept the resistance, look it in the face and see what it is telling you.
I have found that what I am resisting is usually a belief I am holding that isn’t in alignment with what I am doing, or who I am becoming.
The best way to deal with resistance is to ask it what it is trying to tell you.
Then as a parent would soothe a distressed child, begin to soothe yourself, be gentle with yourself, be kind and talk lovingly to yourself.
While you are soothing yourself, go ahead and do the thing that will bring about the desired change you want.
Repetition and self soothing will help you to integrate the resistance into your being.
When there is no resistance from within you, you are less likely to react to the resistance from other people.

Let’s take the example of beginning an exercise programme.
By acknowledging the fitness level you are at when you begin will help to reduce resistance. This eliminates the ‘should’s’ and “ought to’s”.
I should be able to walk the block without puffing. I ought to be lifting heavier weights by now. I shouldn’t have stopped going to Pilates classes.
These comments will only increase your resistance, and the feeling of failure that comes with false high expectations.
Knowing where you are, and building a fitness programme that is challenging but not self-defeating, will help to reduce your resistance to achieving tangible results.
Your tangible results then feed into your self-esteem, making you feel good. Which in turn feeds into your self-image. The image that you are a woman who exercises regularly and enjoys the process at the same time.
This quietens the resistance of exercising, it’s not a punishment, it’s not a means to allow you to eat more, it’s not some thing you have to do to please anyone else. It’s not even something you have to do to be healthy. All these thoughts will feed your resistance, because they are coming from the energy of have to, should and must.
Make your exercise something you enjoy, something you look forward to, something you are good at and you will get better at it.
Once you are better at it, and not feeling any resistance, then you add a little something that stretches your mental thought powers and your physical capabilities. Building the ability to do well, with enjoyment.
To me this is how the concept of spiralling self-improvement works. You master where you are, then add a little resistance, master that, add more resistance, and by the end of the year you are no-where near where you started, and you enjoyed the process and the rewards of a goal achieved.

Until next time: Not knowing is the power for opening the door to a new reality of possibilities and opportunities.
And resistance is part of the process, make friends with it, let it teach you what your real beliefs are, then make the shift to believe closer to your dream self.

See Ya next time.
