Playfulness, what does this mean to you?
Are you feeling happy, when you are feeling playful?
What are the activities you tend towards when you are feeling playful? Are they physical? Are they mentally challenging? Do you have more fun when you are with others? Or do you prefer your own company?
In the town I grew up in we had the most fantastic swings in the park. They were adult swings, you could climb onto the seat, stand up and get the momentum flowing and then sit and let the breeze wash over you. Laying back with legs outstretched, arms stretched out as far as they would go, you could lay back, close your eyes and feel the delight of the movement of the swing, swooshing backward and forward.
What gives you this feeling of delight?
For me this was a marvellous way to wind down after a stressful day. It always made me smile and feel so free.
Do you do it often?
Playfulness is one of the quickest ways I know to bring the sunshine of happiness into your heart. Watch a child playing, they are engrossed in what they are doing, they are not worried about what others will think of them. They find the joy in the smallest detail. They squeal with delight over things we can’t see, or things we take for granted.
When was the last time you played? Just played, without an agenda or without having to be or do anything in particular, just for the fun of playing.
If you want to learn a new skill, they say to make it fun and you will learn it faster.
Playfulness bypasses our serious adulting tendency. It leads to laughter.
Everyone wants to be happy, right? How many people do you know who don’t want to be happy? At least in principle.
Playfulness is one way to tap into your happiness from the outside in.
Today’s question is… What does playfulness feel like to you?
