Embrace Authenticity: A Guide to True Self-Discovery

Authenticity:

“Being true to yourself in thoughts, words, and actions — showing up as you really are, not as what others expect you to be.”

Welcome to Authentic Living Coaching
I’m Linda Codlin, Transformational Life Coach.

Welcome, My Friends.

My life is beginning to settle into a new normal.
This month, I’m going back to my grass roots — everything is open for re-evaluation.

When I first began my journey of self-discovery, my paradigm was simple but painful:
“I am broken and need fixing.”
With that belief, I searched for ways to make myself better—more acceptable, more lovable.

But somewhere along the way, I discovered what I was truly seeking wasn’t perfection.
It was Authenticity — the courage to be true to me.

What are you really looking for?

Being authentic is one of the hardest, most rewarding things I’ve ever done. It isn’t a one-and-done achievement; it’s a daily practice.

Every day, I get to choose to speak my truth — in my marriage, with my children, in conversations with medical professionals, clients, and even financial planners.

To speak your truth, you must first know what your truth is.

Today, I’m grounding myself in this definition of authenticity:

An inspirational graphic featuring a butterfly and soft floral elements with the quote: "Being true to yourself in thoughts, words, and actions - showing up as you really are, not as what others expect you to be." The design reflects themes of authenticity and self-discovery.

” Being true to yourself in thoughts, words, and actions -showing up as you really are, not as what others expect you to be.”

My 3-word guide for living authentically:
Say it. Mean it. Live it.
Say it: Speak your truth.
Mean it: Align with your inner values and beliefs.
Live it: Act in ways that reflect who you truly are.

Say it.
Meaning: Speak your truth clearly and honestly.
How to Use It:
Finding your authentic voice starts with small, courageous steps.
Notice the times you’ve been quiet to please others, avoid conflict, or fit in. Begin by expressing what you really feel or want in everyday moments:
Share your opinion in a conversation, even if it differs from others.
Speak up about your needs — asking for space, support, or time for yourself.
Choose words that reflect your inner values rather than what you think you “should” say.
Start in safe spaces — journaling, self-reflection, or with trusted friends — and gradually extend to more challenging situations. Each authentic expression strengthens your sense of self.
Tip: It’s not about perfection — it’s about honesty.

Mean it.
Meaning: Align with your inner values, beliefs, and desires.
How to Use It:
Authenticity isn’t just about words — it’s about living in alignment with who you truly are. Ask yourself: “Does this decision, action, or relationship reflect me?”
Identify your core values — what matters most to you, not what others expect.
Notice where you’re acting out of obligation, fear, or approval-seeking, and pause.
Make choices that honor your beliefs, even if they feel uncomfortable at first.
By consciously living according to your truth, you strengthen self-respect and inner confidence.
Tip: Start with small decisions — what you eat, wear, or how you spend your time — then move to bigger life choices.

Live it.
Meaning: Take consistent actions that reflect your authentic self.
How to Use It:
Living authentically is a daily practice, not a one-time event. It’s about translating your words and intentions into visible, consistent actions.
Set boundaries that protect your energy, time, and emotional well-being.
Engage in activities, relationships, and work that reflect your passions and values.
Celebrate choices that honor you, even if others don’t understand or approve.
Over time, these actions build a life that feels fully yours, a reflection of your real self in the world.
Tip: Authentic living is a journey. Each day offers small, meaningful opportunities to say it, mean it, and live it.

A guide illustrating the concept of authenticity, featuring a purple butterfly and floral design. It lists three key phrases: 'Say it' with a definition 'Speak your truth,' 'Mean it' with 'Align with your inner values and beliefs,' and 'Live it' with 'Act in ways that reflect who you truly are.'

Living authentically requires courage — the courage to be yourself, to stand in your truth even when it feels uncomfortable or unfamiliar. Learning to create yourself from a place of love, fun, and harmony brings profound joy, peace, and alignment. I have found this to be my truth.

The more I say my truth, and align my actions with my words, the easier it becomes to live my life authentically — my way. Each step I take in this direction deepens my connection to who I really am and the life I am meant to live.

I encourage you to embrace this journey with compassion for yourself. Speak your truth, honor it in your choices, and watch as your authentic life unfoldsone courageous step at a time.

Until Next Time: Notice one situation where you might normally hold back your true thoughts or feelings. Speak your truth in that moment — however small — and honor yourself for taking that courageous step.
