Welcome to Authentic Living with Linda
I’m Linda Codlin
Welcome, My Friends.
What has your week been like?
Are you on the winning side of your desires and beliefs?
This week has been one of journaling all manner of thoughts.
I create a series of questions to ask myself, then I answer them.
In this blog I want to give you a few strategies and techniques you can use to coach your self through almost any situation.
If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, remember to seek the help of professionals trained to help you manage your symptoms and support you to use new tools and strategies to empower you to manage yourself in the future.
Everything you need is within you. Often it is fear that stops us looking at what is stopping us from getting where we want to be.
Let’s dive into mindfulness practices.
Being mindful is being aware and focusing your attention on this present moment.
If you are washing dishes, wash dishes. Usually our brain is a million miles away doing or worrying about something else.
We often consider washing dishes as mundane and not worthy of our attention.
Mindfulness suggests we bring our mind back to what our hands and body is actually doing.
If you are playing with children, give them your full attention and play with them, body, mind and spirit.
If you working on a project, keep you mind where you are, focus on the task at hand.
Stop running ahead to the next step, or beating yourself up over the last step.
Let go of the past, you can not live that particular moment again. You can relive the emotions, you can relive the rememberance, whoever you can not relive the experience.
This is where forgiveness steps in for me.
I use a multi pronged method of forgiveness. Please forgive me, (Spoken to yourself, to the other person/people, and to the incident, experience in the first person as if they were sitting opposite you) I forgive you, I forgive me.
This is one of the four prongs.
By forgiving yourself, other people, outside circumstances you bring your attention back to the present moment.
Meditation is a great way of centering your mind into your body.
There are as many different ways of meditating as there are people meditating.
I’m going to give you a quick run down on how I practice meditating and centering my mind and body in the here and now.
I personally meditate twice a day. Once in the morning, and again just before I go to bed.
My routine is simple, I sit in a certain chair in a quiet space where I know I won’t be interrupted.
My chair is a wing back chair, which gives me the sensation of being cocooned and held.
I sit comfortably with my feet flat on the floor, my arm and hands relaxed in an open, receiving postion, resting on the arms of the chair.
I close my eyes, then focus on my breathing, as I breath in, I imagine the energy and oxygen travelling throughout my entire body.
On every out breath I release the tension of my body, my day, people who pop into my mind.
I breath deeply, but naturally, as well as seeing the energy entering my body I may say a short affirmation.
This month it’s been, “I love and respect myself” as I say this I watch it move around my body, I feel my cells nod in agreement.
Then I centre into my authentic self, if I have a particular question I want answered, I ask it now.
I sometimes will have a vision of the answer, or I will have a sense of what to do, have or be next.
Sometimes there is nothing, just space. If this happens I ask myself to bring light into the space.
For me, my light is attached to my affirmation, I imagine a lamp in my hand and with every ‘I love myself,’ I breathe I see the light becoming brighter.
As the lamp sheds light into the space, I ask what my authentic higher self wants me to be aware of. Then I take note.

Once my spirit has been filled with the light, the light diminishes and I am ready to leave.
I bring my thoughts back to my breathing, imagining the light of love flooding my body from the top of my body to the soles of my feet.
Sometimes this looks like a thick syrup being being anointed over me, other times it’s like a feather tickling me, barely touching me but vibrating love with every movement. At other times I feel the emotion of love radiating from my chest.
Gradually I open my eyes and re-enter the room.
I also set an alarm for 15 mins, so I won’t stay too long as I also have other things to do.
At the end of the day, I review my day, I forgive myself and others for the bitternesses I can hold onto from the day.
I release the incomplete things, the thoughts and feelings I didn’t process, the people I might still be holding a grudge against.
I wind down my day, letting go all the things that have attached themselves to me.
I imagine my breathe is cleaning and clearing out the energy of the day.
This allows me to sleep well and wake rested in the morning.
Some times I will wake with a remnant thought from the previous day, this is an indication I have some unfinished business that needs more exploration.
I’ll dive into this exploration next time.
Until then, have a go at meditating, breathing and sitting with your self. You have so much wisdom within you waiting to be exposed.
If silence isn’t your thing, you can find guided meditations on almost any topic that takes your fancy, choose one and commit to the process of it.
This is one of the most self-nurturing things I do for myself.
