Hello, My Friends

My hubby and I are entering a new chapter in our lives.

New chapters can be so exciting and so terrifying at the same time.
In a life time we go through so many chapters, and yet we don’t even realize they are chapters.

Times in our lives when we can’t go back to how things were before.

Things like our first day at school and all the newness.
Things like our moving from one school or area to another and all the growth that entails.
Things like our first ‘real’ job, things like getting married, having children, changing vocations, these are all new chapters.
Huge chapters of life, things that change the way we see the world forever.

How can we know how these seemingly normal events will change us?
New Chapters.
They happen so subtlely, they flow on from one day to the next. There is no fanfare that says you are entering another chapter of your life.
Unless you choose to make a celebration out of it, like getting married, we often know life will change, it’s the detail of how it changes that forms the new chapter.

Every day is the opportunity to create a new chapter.
Imagine if we made a conscious decision that today is a clean slate. That yesterday and all the events and the emotions from yesterday, don’t have to matter today, that today is a fresh and new day.
What would you do with a clean slate?
Would you make the same choices you made yesterday?
I know most of us wouldn’t want to own up to the fact that we most likely would make the same choices.
Do you know why you would make the same decisions, even though you want a different outcome.
It’s because we think on default.
Our brain has a super highway of thought paths that have become so engraved, that they happen without any thought, consideration or effort from us.
Like driving to work, you get there but you weren’t necessarily paying attention to your driving, your surroundings, the music, or other cars, the entire time.

New Chapters are a great time to put in disruptors, to begin to reroute your thought processess.
As you think in a different way, you act in a different way, which gives you a different result.
New Chapters often throw you into new actions, which can give you new opportunities to think differently, building evidence that you are living a new way.

My challenge for you today is to create a new chapter for yourself.
Your new chapter may be to see yourself as a woman who exercises regularly, or as a mum who talks to her children calmly, or as a business woman who makes the necessary calls with confidence.
Your new chapter may be to put up some healthy ‘red velvet rope policies’ around your self and what you expect from yourself and others.
What ever your new chapter is, (and you’ll know it by the gentle yet continual nagging that’s been happening in the background of your mind, not to be confused with the list of shoulds, demands and pressures of others.) remember to be kind to yourself, know that you are having to put pressure on your brain to think the way you want it to, to retrain it to get off the super highway of past unhelpful thoughts, and to create a new highway that empowers you to be the woman you want to be.
Use positive affirmations to rewire your brain.
Record them on your phone, then listen to them often, a minimum of morning and night.
Carry a small card with a short sentence reminding you of who you are in this new chapter.
Make your affirmation your screen saver, so you are reminded often on who you are.
