Anticipation vs Intuition Week 5

Closing the Gap Between Anticipation and Intuition

Learning to Trust Yourself Through Presence

Welcome to the final week of the June series:
The Gap Between Anticipation and Intuition.
Over the past month, we’ve been exploring something subtle but deeply life-shaping:
the difference between anticipation and intuition,
and how often we confuse prediction with inner knowing.
We’ve looked at:
·         how anticipation pulls us into future-based thinking
·         how intuition feels quieter and more grounded
·         how the body signals overwhelm before the mind understands it
·         how presence becomes an alternative to prediction
And now we arrive at the heart of it all.
Not perfection.
Not “never overthinking again.”
But something much more realistic and human:

Welcome to Authentic Living Coaching.

Welcome, my friends.

Week 5: Closing the Gap
Learning to Trust Yourself Through Presence

And now we arrive at the heart of it all.
Not perfection.
Not “never overthinking again.”
But something much more realistic and human:
closing the gap, moment by moment, through awareness and trust.
This is not about eliminating anticipation.
It’s about noticing when it takes over,
and gently returning to yourself.
That return is where self-trust begins.

My Story

When I look back over this month, I can see how often I used to move through life inside anticipation without even realising it.
It felt normal.
Automatic.
Responsible, even.
I thought I was being prepared.
But what I’m noticing now is that a lot of that “preparation” was actually disconnection.
I was leaving the present moment to try and manage outcomes that hadn’t happened yet.
Recently, I had a moment where I caught myself doing it again.
Trying to mentally solve something.
Trying to predict reactions.
Trying to reduce uncertainty before I even had full information.
And then something different happened.
I noticed it sooner.
Not perfectly.
Not dramatically.
Just early enough.
And instead of following the spiral, I paused.
I came back to my breath.
My body.
The room I was actually in.
Nothing external changed.
But internally, something softened.
And I realised:
closing the gap is not about never leaving presence.
It’s about recognising when you’ve left, and returning sooner.
That return is the practice.

What I Noticed

Over this series, I’ve started noticing a pattern:
Anticipation feels like:
·         speed
·         urgency
·         mental looping
·         emotional tightening
·         future-focus
·         “I need to figure this out now”
Intuition feels like:
·         simplicity
·         steadiness
·         grounded awareness
·         present-focus
·         “this is enough for now”
And the gap between them is often filled with habit.
Habitual thinking.
Habitual fear responses.
Habitual prediction.
But habits can change through awareness.
Not force.
Not pressure.
Just noticing.
I’m realising that every time I notice anticipation sooner, the gap becomes smaller.
And the smaller the gap becomes,
the easier it is to stay connected to myself.

Learning Point

Closing the gap between anticipation and intuition is not about eliminating one and only keeping the other.
Both are part of the nervous system.

Anticipation is protective.

It tries to help us stay safe by predicting outcomes.

Intuition is integrative.

It helps us stay connected to present-moment truth.
The challenge is not that anticipation exists.
The challenge is when anticipation becomes the default voice we trust most.

Self-trust grows when we begin to notice:
·         “Am I predicting right now?”
·         “Or am I actually responding to what is here?”

Over time, something shifts.
We stop reacting automatically to fear-based prediction.
And we begin to pause long enough to hear something quieter.
That pause is where choice returns.
And choice is where trust begins to form.
Not as certainty.
But as presence.

Body Awareness

One of the most important things I’ve learned this month is that the body notices the gap before the mind does.
When I am in anticipation, my body often shows me:
·         tension in the chest or shoulders
·         tight breathing
·         mental fog or fuzziness
·         urgency or restlessness
·         a sense of pressure
When I return to presence, even slightly, I notice:
·         more space in my breath
·         a softening in my chest
·         slower thinking
·         less internal noise
·         a sense of “settling”
It’s rarely dramatic.
It’s subtle.
Which is why it’s easy to miss.
But the more I pay attention, the more I realise:
my body is not trying to overwhelm me.
It is trying to bring me back.

Reflection Questions

When do you notice yourself leaving the present moment most often?
What does anticipation usually sound like in your mind?
What does intuition feel like in your body?
How quickly do you notice when you’ve moved into prediction mode?
What helps you return to presence?
What would self-trust look like in small everyday moments?
Where in your life are you learning to close the gap?

Small Practice

The Return Practice

This week, instead of trying to stop anticipation altogether, simply practice noticing and returning.
When you catch yourself predicting:
Pause.
Then gently ask:
“Where am I right now?”
“What is actually here?”
Bring attention back to:
  your breath
your body
your surroundings
one simple truth in this moment
You are not trying to fix yourself.
You are practicing returning.
Again and again.
That repetition is what closes the gap.

Gentle Encouragement

As this series comes to a close, I don’t feel like the work is finished.
It doesn’t feel finished because this isn’t something we complete once.
It’s something we practice.
Over and over.
But something has shifted for me this month.
I’m noticing anticipation sooner.
I’m returning to presence more gently.
And I’m learning that intuition doesn’t compete with fear — it becomes easier to hear when I stop rushing past myself.
Maybe closing the gap isn’t about perfection.
Maybe it’s about familiarity.
Familiarity with your own body.
Familiarity with your own patterns.
Familiarity with your own return.
And over time, that familiarity becomes trust.
Not loud trust.
Not certain trust.
But quiet, steady trust.
The kind that grows through presence.

Thank you for walking through this series with me.

This series is not about arriving at perfection.
It is about learning to notice yourself more gently,
and return to presence more often.
And maybe that is enough.
